Spring is around the corner I can smell it in the air and this morning I saw hundreds of purple crocuses piercing through the ground. I am looking forward to the spring weather; which reminds me, we have a fantastic new color line called Affinage that contains no sulfates and makes hair super shiny. Read all about Affinage here.

1. FEATURED EVENT: 2010 Environmental Film Festival Launch Party

Food and music from over 35 countries! More than 35 embassies, governments and associations will present their respective cultures and help you discover the rich traditions and culinary specialties of the French speaking world. Francophonie 2010 is dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives during Haiti’s recent earthquake, and to the rebuilding efforts of those who survived. During the festival, patrons have two ways to contribute to the ongoing reconstruction in Haiti. SFP Editor: What inspired you to start the Washington Film Institute?
John: I put on the Guerrilla Film Fest once a year and people always ask me: “when is the next one?” So I decided to create the WFI as an organization where I could put on screenings more often (roughly every 3 weeks). It is much easier to program a feature film every three weeks than it is to curate an entire film festival.

2010 Opening Night Event performance of Washington Improv Theater’s iMusical. With scenes ranging from absurd to abstract and songs spanning the gamut from zany to zingy— with all stops in between—iMusical is a freewheeling musical creative epiphany. This year’s Washington Film Institute Oscar party will be the best yet with two big screens, open bar wine and beer. The WFI was created to inspire audiences through film education and the cultivation of the cinematic arts. This is done by producing an international film festival, developing educational programs, and programming film events throughout the year.

9. 2009 Exhibit of the TreasurePostcards Project Opening Reception

The exhibit by Arts for Global Development showcases over 100 artworks of women artists from around the world. TreasurePostcards sales proceeds will benefit Friends of Orphans, an award winning organization in the Pader district of northern Uganda that has been working fervently to create normalcy for the child mothers, orphans, former child soldiers, abductees and women; and reintegrate and empower those impacted by the conflict and HIV/AIDS. TreasurePostcards Project will be on display at Touchstone Gallery until March 28th.

10. Glenlivet Scotch Dinner

The Fourth Estate at the National Press Club is proud to offer a different spin on their wine dinner series, presenting The Glenlivet Scotch Dinner. The night will begin with a reception featuring The Glenlivet 12 year and some hors d’oeuvres. Following the reception, new Executive Chef Susan Delbert has created a mouth-watering menu to pair with The Glenlivet’s 15 year, 16 year, 18 year, and 21 year to bring out all the flavors in The Glenlivet’s family of scotches. As a parting gift, each diner will leave with two Glenlivet branded snifters to enjoy with scotch at home. The evening will begin with a reception featuring a 12-year-old scotch and prosciutto wrapped, goat cheese stuffed Medjool dates, mini reuben sandwiches, and smoked salmon and dill cream cheese triangles. Executive Chef Susan Delbert will prepare a four-course dinner featuring blue cheese soup with crab and herb croutons that will pair with Glenlivet’s 15-year scotch. Seared scallops on pea-and-carrot mousse with mint butter will match the flavors of the 16-year scotch. Rosemary-marinated lamb chops with wild mushrooms and mint emulsion will pair with the 18-year scotch. The 21-year-old scotch will be served with chocolate and orange truffle with pop-rock bittersweet chocolate-dipped strawberries. To cap off the night, Glenlivet will pose a toast with the rare Glenlivet XXV.

Following the District Court of Agincourt’s ruling that Henry V was justified in his slaughter of the French POWs, the Supreme Court of the Amalgamated Kingdom of England and France has granted certiorari to the POW estates. The Court will hear argument on whether the District Judge’s findings of law are supported by his findings of fact. The World Affairs Council’s Embassy Series continues with a very special evening hosted by the Ambassador of Luxembourg, H.E. Jean-Paul Senninger, at the Embassy of Luxembourg in Washington.
